Patina Maldives & The Artling are thrilled to announce that acclaimed artist Daniel Arsham will be doing an art residency on the Fari Islands from 1 to 7 March 2022. Featuring never-before-seen art pieces on the island, Arsham -- who has collaborated with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Kim Jones of Christian Dior and Tiffany & Co -- will share his creative process with the guests of the island during his intimate residency as well as an exclusive Open Studio session on March 3, an Art Talk on March 4, and a 25-seater Private Group Dinner on March 5 where guests will be able to personally engage with the artist.

As part of the new lifestyle brand Patina Hotels & Resorts, the latest hospitality concept by Capella Hotel Group, Patina Maldives, Fari Island allow guests to immerse themselves in a new and exquisite manifestation of island life. An ‘Archipelago of Artistry’, Patina Maldives’ philosophy centres around sharing the process of origination to strengthen our relations with the world around us. Together with The Artling, Patina Maldives pushes the boundaries of what is traditionally expected of the Maldives, positioning the island as a world-class art destination through the Fari Art Atelier where guests can enjoy a continuing series of artist residencies.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Arsham refrains from conforming to the conventional narratives. His works provide an astonishing dimensionality with consideration to the impact of time on human environments, eroded architecture and relics, and landscapes where nature overrides structure. During his residency, Arsham investigates and brings to life Patina’s concept of Perpetuality – a never-ending journey of our positive impact on people and place. As part of the residency’s ongoing three-part series on Perpetuality, studying humanity’s impact on nature and civilization, Arsham becomes the second artist after James Turrell to bring forth his creative virtuoso to the island.

Having been featured in commercial as well as gallery and institutional shows worldwide including Centre Pompidou, Paris; Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; and the National Museum of Qatar, Doha, Arsham’s art inspired by the island during his week-long residency fits in perfectly with the existing collection of artworks from international artists such as ‘Amarta’ by James Turrell and ‘Home Deep Blue’ by New York-based artist Hiroko Takeda.
With the seclusive, remote nature of Patina Maldives, the awe-inspiring environment offers artists in the exclusive residency the key to nurturing creation. The residencies invite the artists as well as guests to a destination to open up to creative discourses and engagement while reconnecting with their internal state and creativity.
