Best of The Artling: 2020 Highlights

As we approach the end of 2020, The Artling reflects on the challenging year brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges, we are happy to have been able to provide continual support and services to our clients as well as artists, designers, and galleries around the world. We have also worked to introduce new features and improvements to our online platform to make it easier and faster for our art lovers to buy art online and for artists and designers to sell their art online with us.

Our Online Gallery

The constraints and challenges have had widespread effects on the art world, but the art community has persevered and continues to grow through these difficult times. The importance of an online presence became even more evident as cities around the world went into lockdown, and we have been fortunate to expand our online gallery with a 60% increase in listings from artists, designers, and galleries. Hundreds of new artworks and design objects are added to the site weekly, and we are thrilled to present their creativity and talent to our followers.

Patina Hotel & Ritz Carlton Hotel, Maldives

The Artling is thrilled to be the official art consultant for the upcoming Patina Hotel and Ritz-Carlton Hotel in the Maldives, one of three resorts comprising the Fari Islands, a new development delivering an elevated Maldivian resort experience that celebrates nature, craft and connection.

For the Patina Hotel, we are working closely with interior designers, Brazilian firm Studio MK27, and landscape architects VDLA to build a holistic artwork program consisting of commissioned in-room artworks and site-specific sculptural installations placed throughout the island. The Ritz-Carlton Hotel property is made up of three 'islands' designed by Australian firm Kerry Hill Architects and landscape architects VDLA, with The Artling sourcing for artworks for the 100 villas, and sculptures and accessories for all the public areas.

Corporate Headquarters

For the extension of a major tech company's headquarters in Singapore, The Artling worked with local artists to create site-specific murals on three different floors of the new building. The artists created works centered around themes higlighted by the interior designers, with one artist combining a theme of natural elements with 3D wood cut-outs that are abstract representations of iconic Singapore landmarks, such as Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay, and another creating a 3D effect through a kaleidoscopic tiled approach.

Base Residences

Base Residences

BASE Residences is a flexible living concept located in the trendy enclave of Gemmill Lane in Singapore. The Artling sourced for artworks for eight furnished apartments to go with the meticulously designed studios that reflect classic comforts and modern charms.

Wanderlust Hotel

Wanderlust Hotel

The Wanderlust Hotel is a boutique heritage hotel located on Dickson Road in Singapore. The mural in the hotel features overlapping Peranakan flowers with linework overlapping buildings in warm shades of green. The colour plays into the idea of a 'mosaic' without utilising actual tiels. The artworks play with negative space, proving a sense of calm and quiet whilst retaining a freshness in the space.

Collaboration with TASCHEN for Ai WeiWei's Limited Edition Collection

We collaborated with Taschen to for Beijing-based artist Ai WeiWei's latest his collection of limited edition scarves, tote bags, and his Papercut Portfolio. This collections is available now for sale exclusively on The Artling for a limited time! His recent works brought social issues in China at the forefront of the international stage, and this collection takes their motifs from papercuts created by Ai Weiwei as part of his Papercut Portfolio. Papercutting is a traditional Chinese art going back 2,000 years and the coloured, intricately cut papers are used as a story-telling medium in festivities, for prayers, and as everyday decoration.
