Farhan Siki

Farhan Siki

Born: 1969

Hometown: Yogyakarta

Based in: Yogyakarta

Born in 1971 in Lamongan (East Java), he studied Painting at Studio Seni Rupa UKM Kesenian, a Student Art Organization, before graduating from the Historiography Department of the Faculty of Cultural Science of Jember State University (East Java). Farhan Siki has won the 2010 International Painting Competition “Jakarta Art Award” and has been one of the five winners of Indonesian “ITC Wall Painting Competition”.

The Indonesian street artist Farhan Siki reflects about the Pop Culture of the 21st Century, exploring textual elements, collecting logos, brands, and symbols of mass culture, in order to prepare them on canvas, charging them with hyperbolic attributes and parody. The urban experience and the ever-increasing consumerist culture we encounter in our daily life, in his artworks crashed in a loud splash of color, satirizing (from the inside) the contemporary art system that became, for certain artists, a star system.
