Janice Beaudoin is a Canadian contemporary artist based in Vancouver British Columbia.
Through her abstract works, she explores the tension between built and natural environments. Discovery and risk-taking are vital components of her creative process, resulting in works that are richly layered with mark and medium, fusing her love of painting and drawing. Strong shapes and a masterful use of color and line create highly expressive paintings that are often playful and always imaginative and full of life.
Janice is interested in the process of creating as much as her finished work. All her paintings begins the same way: with free, spontaneous, often chaotic marks that provide her with something to respond to on the canvas. She continues to add and edit until she feels she has tamed the wildness and create a satisfying composition that is both energizing and contemplative. Each painting is like a puzzle to her and finding the resolution can take as few days or a few months, depending on the actual piece.
With a background in interior design, design is second nature to her and her artwork is catching on quickly with international collectors. Her paintings are in private homes and businesses around the world and she has exhibited in solo shows in Vancouver and in international group exhibitions in Canada and the US.
Janice works from her private studio in an artist collective in North Vancouver.
"I am a curious artist. Art is a teacher and my art practice has much to teach me about life, and about myself. That is why I paint."
