Based in: Colombo
b. 1992, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Malinda pursued a career in the corporate world after completing his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and Finance. Upon gaining 5 years of experience in various fields such as Finance, Marketing and Supply Chain Management, he focused on pursuing a career in Visual Arts in 2019.
Self-taught in classical drawing techniques, his initial focus was on exploring photo-realism with black & white portraiture. Upon completing the course, ‘History of Art’ at Theertha International Artists Collective in 2019, his practice further developed towards a multidisciplinary approach using Graphite, Charcoal, Acrylic/ Oil Paints and Collage to explore contemporary themes related to human nature.
His current practice represents both, a conscious yet mechanical process of classical realism as well as an abstract mark making technique to depict the unconscious decision-making process in order to address the concept of freewill or the illusion of it. Through the exploration of themes relating to the nature of being, he combines and highlights socioeconomic factors in contemporary society in an attempt to question our understanding of self.
