I am currently working as a freelance artist.
I work in the technique of easel painting and graphics, a variety of artistic materials.

The transience and uncertainty of the external world makes me turn to the practice of observing the inner space. While still enjoying the beauty of lines and shapes of real things, their color, I often prefer the abstract in my works, trying to leave only the harmony of color and shape from the physical essence. For me, the non-objective, abstract structure of the canvas space gives me complete freedom, where the pure form is an endless variation of associations, enhanced by the emotional charge of the viewer. In particular, in my abstract "linear" works, I tried to find the order of the structure of space through interpenetration, "pulsation", reflection and imaginary visualization of gravitational connections. Inner experience, in my opinion, is able to synthesize and reflect the inner need to embody (reflect) one's own understanding of the world, one's place in time coordinates, one's premonitions and questions to the era, the search for balance, internal levers for balancing.

More About Mariana Sobkiv

Question IconWhat inspires you?

Personally, I don't need much to be inspired. After all, the whole world around us is a color, a tone, a line, a spot. Emotions and events, life itself, in all its manifestations, are raging around us. If you look closely, you can always find a story.

Question IconDescribe your creative process.

I work with different materials. I like to spend some time observing, taking photographs and/or making some sketches before starting a new work. But sometimes I start working on impulse, with only a vague idea of the goal to be achieved.

Question IconWhat are 3 words that best describe your work?

Good mood, practice, intuition.

Question IconWho are some artists that have influenced your work?

It is difficult for me to single out the influence of a few specific artists. In various periods, I was influenced by different styles and genres.

Question IconWhat is the most important tool when creating your work?

I guess it's the mind, intuition, observation and inspiration.

Question IconWhat is the best piece of advice you have been given?

My dear experienced painter and teacher, an 80-year-old painting teacher, often repeated and emphasized that I should remember the following: Every stroke (element) is a composition. Painting is a tone. In every artist's bag (pocket) there should be a small sketchbook, a simple pencil and an eraser.

Question IconWhere do you go for inspiration?

I turn to my own inner world, reflections and observations, to photography, the process of sketching, to reading fiction and non-fiction literature and watching world cinema, as well as listening to my favorite music.
