Based in: Ljubljana, Slovenia
Sara Voss is an expressionistic abstract painter based in Ljubljana, Slovenia. Working with gestural strokes, she creates powerful works that convey the emotions and passions of the human soul, capturing the dichotomy between beauty and chaos. Bold brushstrokes give life and energy to her pieces, thus conveying raw emotions that echo across the canvas and offer a glimpse into her creative mind. Through her work, Voss hopes to evoke an intense response from her audience, drawing upon the essential tangibility of abstract painting to communicate emotion on a deeper level. Voss has focused on employing expressionistic styles and techniques to veer away from traditional aesthetics in her work, to explore her inner being, and at the same time invite viewers to reflect on their own emotional experiences through her art.
Her paintings are influenced by artists like Joan Mitchell, Elaine de Kooning, Michael Corinne West and Judith Godwin.
Her works have been acquired by collectors from all over the world.
Sara Voss lives and works in Ljubljana, Slovenia and has been painting professionally full-time since 2022.

In January 2024 I have renovated my studio, which allows me to work on much bigger projects and essentially working on multiple paintings at the same time.
More About Sara Voss
What inspires you?
My main inspiration comes from raw emotions and passions of the human soul. When I paint, I usually listen to music that accompanies feelings and emotions that I'm trying to express on the canvas at that moment, as it helps me to capture the rawness of a certain feeling.
Describe your creative process.
In 2024 I changed my creative process quite dramatically, as I reduced the unnecessary distractions, such as vivid and colorful palettes, and focused on the bare minimum, as I felt the necessity of letting my gestures speak. I'm hoping to evoke an intense response from the viewer, drawing upon the essential tangibility of abstract painting to communicate emotion on a deeper level.

What is the most important tool when creating your work?
At the moment I mostly use foam brushes, graphite, and acrylic ink colored pencils.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Don't look on the internet and social media for inspiration, just get in your studio and create as much as you can - without unintentional influences of others. Create from within.
Where do you go for inspiration?
Inspiration for me comes from everyday life - a simple conversation can spark an idea in my mind, or sometimes looking at my previous works inspires me to create new pieces. Inspiration is everywhere if you know how to think like an artist.
