Utai Nopsiri

Born: 1970

Hometown: Chachoengsao

Based in: Nakhon Pathom

Utai Nopsiri (b. 1970) lives and works in Nakhon Pathom, Thailand

Utai Nopsiri’s work is a direct expression of his belief in Buddhism and Zen teaching through the form of elegant and simplistic wooden sculptures. Although at first glance they look so effortless, Nopsiri’s works are a result of a painstaking process. From start to finish, there are no electrical tools involved. All works are done manually and traditionally. His works represent the serenity of a world in balance revealed in the contrast between texture, surface and material used.

A graduate of Silpakorn University, Utai Nopsiri is a full time artist who has been represented by leading contemporary art galleries in Bangkok and Singapore. His exhibitions include Fracture/Fiction: Selections from the ILHAM Collection, Kuala Lumpur (2019), Fair-Well, Numthong Art Space, Bangkok (2019), Sculptured vol.1, Yavuz Gallery, Singapore (2017), Capturing Moment (2014)/Liberation (2010)/Only Apperance (2007), 100 Tonson Gallery, Showcase Singapore (2009) and Bangkok, Beasts, Breasts & Beauty, Alliance Française, Singapore (2008), The Thai-Italian Art Space (2000)

He won 2nd Prize, Krung Thai Bank Award, the 52nd National Exhibition of Art (2006) and 3rd Prize, Bronze Medal, the 51st National Exhibition of Art (2005). In 2017 he received one of the 17th Silpa Bhirasri Creativity Grants. His works are part of private and public collections.
