Ana Guerrero

Ana Guerrero

Born: 1958

Hometown: San Lorenzo de El Escorial

Based in: Madrid

Ana Guerrero was born in Madrid in 1958 and lives and works in San Lorenzo de El Escorial in the Sierra de Madrid.
She studied performing arts and cinema, but suffered an accident that left her paraplegic and from then on she began to paint. She first she self-taught and then she attended different workshops, but it was at the hands of her teacher Marta Ratti who opened the way to the techniques and arts of painting.
She works with oil on canvas, watercolour on paper, and photography. Her themes are based on the macrocosm and the microcosm and with a deep inner and meditative inclination of being and of space and time. She handles figuration and abstraction as different ways of representation, but always based on a search for spirituality and reflection. Her canvas is impregnating it with subtlety with oil based on free, patient and balanced brushstrokes with an exquisite handling of colour.

More About Ana Guerrero

IconInspires

What inspires you?

Some series have emerged from my love for nature, inspired by the microcosm of a flower or the macrocosm of planets. I have always loved traveling, getting to know other cultures and being ecstatic before new landscapes. There the inspiration is external, but other times it has come through an inner vision or an emotional state.

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

I start with the backgrounds, staining freely, with a loose brushstroke, and then I build the image, but if I have a model, there comes a time when I let the painting itself speak to me. For me, the most important thing is the dialogue that I establish with the painting, I observe and see what it asks of me. Color is my domain, mixing colors in the palette is something very instinctive.

IconMagnifying

What are 3 words that best describe your work?

I throw myself. Dialogue. I fall in love

IconUser

Who are some artists that have influenced your work?

Surely everyone I have been seeing as a painting enthusiast. But to highlight a few, Turner, Monet, Tapies, Japanese painting.

IconTool

What is the most important tool when creating your work?

Without a doubt, color is my best ally, from the beginning I had an instinct to mix colors.

IconGive

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

My first teacher, Mata Ratti, was fundamental, and without ceasing to give me a technical base, I always encourage myself to follow my impulse, my intuition, my search ... She took me to the edge of the abyss. It was very inspiring to see her own inner struggle.

IconLightbulb

Where do you go for inspiration?

There is something in me that is alert, and the inspiration comes from the look I have on things. Many ideas have come to me from internal images or meditating and when this happens, it gives me a lot of strength. In nature I feel good, it expands and balances me.
