More About Belinda Yee

IconInspires

What inspires you?

Looking beyond the obvious, looking at small interactions in life and seeing how they have larger resonance. Science, philosophy, theory, ideas, concepts and the thought of making something new.

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

Daily reading on key topics of interest in philosophy, science and art theory. Daily looking at artists and artworks. Then I just go into the studio and make, allowing myself to be led by the materials, how I feel, what I'm thinking in a loose form of adductive reasoning.

IconMagnifying

What are 3 words that best describe your work?

Drawing, time, entropy.

IconUser

Who are some artists that have influenced your work?

Francis Alÿs, Tacita Dean, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Dorothy Napangardi, Fausto Melotti, Huan Zhang, Locust Jones, Agnes Martin, Emma McNally.

IconTool

What is the most important tool when creating your work?

Graphite sticks

IconGive

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

Art is a daily practice.

IconLightbulb

Where do you go for inspiration?

I sit by Sydney Harbour watching the morning sun glisten on the water. I sit silently and still and eventually a strong sense of creative energy rises.
