About his painting, Red Sky, Rithy states, “In the context of Khmer society since ancient times, the people like to compare the political and intellectual leaders to the animals or other things. For example, the rabbits are compared to the smartest people but bad demonstrate behavior. Pigs are compared to the foolish person- intellectually weak and lazy, while tigers are compared to the cruel person, killing others for personal benefit. For this painting I have chosen pigs to represent people who have power in society but are not wise in their use of that power.”
