c.a. walac

c.a. walac

Born: 1989

Hometown: Le Cannet

Based in: Glasgow, United Kingdom

While chasing abstract domesticity and industrial surrealism, Walac focuses on deploying theatricality in spaces through materials and shapes. Her work spans sculpture, drawings, furniture, installations, and poetry. She is interested in the living relationship between the body, architecture, and objects/furniture. Both organic and geometric, her works convene playful darkness and engage shadows in layers of existentialism.

c.a. walac. received an MFA from ENSAPC (Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Arts de Paris Cergy) in 2015 where she studied Sculpture and Installation and a Research MFA from University Paris I Panthéon Sorbonne in 2014 where she explored the concepts of space and place in contemporary art.

The living relationship between body, architecture, and furniture.

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

It always starts with pen and paper, as studies for shaping and spacing. It feels both archaeological - digging in underlying ideas, and fleeting and urgent at the same time, as a glimpse that could disappear forever. Only from there it can become things. This is where the negotiation between drawing, abstract body expression and furniture begins.
