The artist lives and works in London having graduated with a Masters Fine Art from the University of the Arts London in 2018.

Jane Pickersgill:
Prior to her masters, she worked as a successful fashion designer (her first degree was a BA Hons fashion). It is a field that she draws upon in her interdisciplinary art practice. Of interest is the transformation of banal materials into desirable objects, and the way in which contemporary culture fetishizes these. Architectural edifice – iconic super modern buildings - operate as a metaphor for personal ambition. Her research takes in social mobility, urban renewal, the commodification and allure of city life, and the promise of change which it presents to a continual influx of newcomers.

She participated in the Processions 14-18 national event: commemorating the centenary of women’s suffrage. Subsequently, she has been engaged in an ongoing project Honouring my Grandmother Whilst Escaping her Legacy. Her maternal grandmother (of that enfranchised generation) played a formative role in her upbringing. The work interrogates and celebrates, skills she learnt from her grandmother which empowered her. She is re-contextualising these in her art practice: particularly manifest in the current series of works titled Couture Drawing.
