About Christian VIDAL

IconInspires

What inspires you?

My inspiration, although essentially figurative, sometimes lets itself be drawn along the paths of abstract suggestion, which, with greater freedom of tone and movement, invites me to explore the range of pictorial possibilities while mobilising the diversity of contemporary graphic resources, in a vision that is both serene and poetic

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

I paint ideas, views of the mind where the poetry of the real is distanced, evoked in an underlying way, in a semi-figurative expression. Thus, far from being an anecdotal evidence, the title given to the work asserts itself as the driving principle of its genesis and sometimes delivers a track for its immediate understanding. But it is up to the public to apprehend the work of the artist through the prism of his own imagination, rich most often of harmonics as subtle as unsuspected...

IconMagnifying

What are 3 words that best describe your work?

drawing - shapes -colors

IconUser

Who are some artists that have influenced your work?

Mainly cubist artists like Picasso, Juan Gris, but also painters Nabi or Fauves like André Derain

IconTool

What is the most important tool when creating your work?

Chardin used to say he painted with feelings. I make this requirement my own.

IconGive

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

The Greek poet Pindare writes: "Become what you are." I strive to apply this precept with humility.

IconLightbulb

Where do you go for inspiration?

I go to the contact of nature or to meet others artists for an always enriching exchange.
