Emily Lau (Wai Lau) was born in China and raised in Hong Kong. She received a Bachelor of Fine Arts (major in oil painting) from Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts in 2007 and a Bachelor of Performing Arts (cinema) from the University of Caen in 2016. She is now studying a Master's degree in Research of cinema.
In her previous works, Emily presented her observation and commentary about the people living in highly materialistic societies. She created her iconic "black flat human figures" which often attach to huge objects, seeking peace of mind. She has then developed an interest in Psychoanalytic film theory, which addressing her to the study of symbols.
Recently, she continues to paint in various media, as well as to explore her newly developed interest of mini sculpture.
