Guido Klumpe was born 1971 in Osnabrück, Germany.
His passion for photography began at the age of 16. It all started with the assignment to photograph concerts.
He soon had his own photo lab and turned to artistic photography.
Today he is based in Hannover, Germany.
In his current work "Loosing one dimension", the self-educated photographer explores the fragile moment of transition, in which three-dimensional architecture dissolves into two dimensions and abstracts.
To achieve this, he photographically superimposes various objects of the cityscape, such as the walls of houses, bollards or car roofs. The photographs are not digitally manipulated.
He finds his motifs in completely normal residential areas, arterial roads and industrial areas.
The artist explores his own way of seeing: He is blind in one eye, the other has a visual capacity of 25%. Through photography he approaches and crosses the boundaries of his vision. He lives in a simulated three-dimensionality.

What inspires you?
It is the light that inspires me. The light makes the difference. It shapes our environment, makes some things shine and others are hidden in the dark. The light is never the same, it changes its quality during the course of the day and the seasons. This is how I keep discovering new possibilities even in familiar areas of the city.
Describe your creative process.
I prefer to go to areas of the city that are not considered particularly beautiful: Arterial roads, industrial areas, suburbs. There I wander and observe. When I see a place with potential, I take my time until I understand the building. I get down on my knees, stand on tiptoe, get close and move away again until I find my image. And if the light is not right, I come back another time.

What is the most important tool when creating your work?
My eyes, my curiosity and my imagination. The camera only stores the image that I have in my head.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Let your curiosity make pictures that no one has ever made before.
Where do you go for inspiration?
When I'm uninspired, I go to areas of my city that I don't know that well yet. Or I travel.
