Hana Juric

Hana Juric

Born: 1988

Hometown: Belisce

Based in: Zadar, Croatia

Hana Juric is a Croatian visual artist working in the fields of painting and new media. Her artworks can be described as minimalist and intimate, as she investigates the concept of presence. Using both traditional media like oil paints, as well as digital software, she explores the distance between the figurative and the abstract – the body and the mind. In 2014, she graduated with the title of Master of Education in Fine Arts from the Art Academy in Osijek. After her graduation, she lived and worked in Canada, Portugal, and Austria. In 2019 she returned to Croatia and started an independent art gallery and concept store called “Moja Soba” in Zadar.

More About Hana Juric

IconInspires

What inspires you?

I love sci-fi movies, graphic design, high fashion shows and contemporary dance.

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

Collecting things that inspire me is a big part of my creative process. Every time I'm starting a project, I create a mood board with all things relevant to the vibe of my new work. I never question the things that I find inspiring and avoid the intellectualization of this process at all costs. I firmly believe that everything that moves you is legitimate, be it the Higgs boson or some celebrity's Instagram selfie.

IconMagnifying

What are 3 words that best describe your work?

I would describe my work as minimal, intimate and balanced.

IconUser

Who are some artists that have influenced your work?

Mark Rothko, Barnett Newman and Agnes Martin. They taught me that becoming a minimal artist is a journey of experimentation and deduction. It is about being merciless towards saying too much because by saying too much, we say nothing at all. When I’m stuck with my work, I often find myself in front of a Google search of Agnes Martin’s paintings, which help me clear my mind.

IconGive

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

I read somewhere that having too many ideas mean not having a single one worth developing. I often have to remind myself that when the idea is that good, I focus on it and forget about everything else.
