Multimedia Artist + Curator / BMLab
Jaime Pacena II is a multimedia artist, educator and curator in the Philippines. He is also active as a video director for the advertising and the music industry in the Philippines and a mentor to multimedia arts students in an industry based learning program and collaborative practice in Manila.
In 2010 he was a grantee of the Jenesys Programme for Creators by the Japan Foundation,a 3 months Curator-in-Residence Program in Aomori Contemporary Art Centre and in Tokyo. He co-curated an all-Japanese Artist Exhibition in Perth Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA) in Australia last 2011 and particpated the Asahi Art Festival Travel Study Tour 5 months after the Tsunami incident. He attended the first Rikuzentakata Artist-in-Residence program in 2013 and it’s 4th program in 2016.
Pacena was a core member of the human rights advocate artist collective called TUTOK. He is now active as the in-house Curator for CANVAS.PH, a Non Profitable Organization that promotes Filipino Art, Literature, Culture and the Environment. He is the founder and creative director of an independent technical and artistic support group called Bliss Market Laboratory or BMLab. His recent endeavor is about the Philippine Art Landscape, how it affects the current art education, art practice and art market systems in the Philippines and this extends to the idea on how art can be a tool to empower and invite discourse to address current narratives in our society.
