Jieun Jang was born in Seoul, Korea. She earned her B.F.A in painting from Hongik University in South Korea, and received her M.F.A from Tufts University and School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
Jang has worked in drawing, sculptural installation, and video. Her work detects subtle movements and the hidden life in inanimate objects. Her works are intended to invite viewers to the moment of intimacy and attract attention to invisible things that are usually ignored. She has participated in volunteering projects at nonprofit organizations around the world, including cultural exchange, working at refugee camps, and making a documentary about women and children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her volunteer work has inspired her to explore the potential social impact of her work.
