JJ Duque is a 45 year old Artist based in Manila, Philippines. After lengthy stints as a Film & TV Producer and online content manager, he realized his true calling was in art and picked up his paper & inks full time in 2015.
As a creative writer, JJ Duque used his pen to tell stories. But since becoming a visual artist full time for the past 3 years, he has used his pens (and colored pencils) to stream out stories from basic shapes and forms.
With a hand that flows freely, and without following a sketch or under-drawing, Duque meticulously provides a rich texture of gradients and pointillism onto the paper with a deep sense of rhythm through the repetition of shapes that form a complex story once all the elements have been pieced together.
The process of telling the story goes through a lot of time, effort and patience. And the result of this drawing tenacity creates an art that speaks of patterns hidden in everyday life; of secrets revealed through the stellar universe; or of intimacies underneath the microscopic realm.
JJ Duque has had a solo show at ArtistSpace, Ayala Museum, and has shared his work in various group exhibits.
He won 2nd Place Artists' Choice Awards in the abstract category of the juried group show of the Visual Artists of Paranaque.
