Jon McCormack

Jon McCormack

Born: 1964

Hometown: Melbourne

Based in: Melbourne

Jon McCormack works at the nexus of art, technology and society. His experimental practice is driven by an enduring interest in computing and incorporates generative art, sound art, evolutionary systems, computer creativity, physical computing and artificial intelligence. Inspired by the complexity and wonder of the natural world, his work is concerned with electronic ‘after natures’: alternate forms of artificial life which, due to unfettered human progress and development, may one day replace a lost biological nature.

More About Jon McCormack

What inspires you?

Process philosophies. I'm inspired by the natural phenomena of the universe and the generative capabilities of machines.

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

My art practice is founded in computer code – I create my own algorithms that generate the work autonomously, so in a sense I am a meta-artist. I work with generative processes such as evolution and AI, so my work is co-created with the computer.
