Lives and Works: Singapore
Juls is born and based in Singapore. She graduated from the Royal College of Art (London, U.K.) in 2011 with a Masters in Communication Art and Design. In 2008, she graduated from Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts London (U.K.) with a first class honors Bachelor’s degree. Juls began her life in Art in 2000 where she majored in Photography, then stumbled into Graphic Design, had her foot briefly in advertising and soon after found Drawing as her main focus as a practicing artist.
Juls has been nominated and won various awards between 2003 and 2013, such as Merit for Graphic Design Advanced by Designers Association in 2003, collaborated appointment for the SMRT CircleLine Art Prize in 2007, 1st runner-up for the John Norris Wood Natural Forms Drawing Prize (U.K.) in 2011 and 2nd runner-up for the Derwent Art Prize (U.K.) in 2013.
Juls has participated in multiple art exhibitions in the U.K. and Singapore, which includes the Singapore Arts Show in 2005, a site-specific installation and photography show in the Singapore History Museum in 2003 and in the U.K. includes Camberwell Graphics Showcase in 2008, Show RCA in 2011, Man Drawing Prize in 2011, John Ruskin Prize in 2012. Her winning work for the Derwent Art Prize was exhibited both in the Cumberland Pencil Museum and London Mall Galleries in 2013.
In 2014, Juls was selected as one of the artists at The Swatch Art Peace Hotel residency where she spent 6 months developing her practice in various drawing experimentations. She recently participated in the “Swatch Loves Art” exhibition in Hong Kong with 18 local and international artists.
