Jyoti Naoki Eri is a Japanese artist residing in Auroville – a universal township in making in South India.
He studied traditional Japanese art as the foundation to his artistic career.
He has used this strong traditional background to break barriers in his art and explore multiple techniques and mediums in his artwork such as; calligraphy, sculpture, water colours, ceramics, lacquer work etc.

1994 Graduated Doda Municipal Art High School Sculpture Course, Kyoto, Japan
1994-1999 Apprenticeship under the guidance of the sculpture master Satoshi Yabuuchi, Tokyo, Japan
1999-2000 Studied Art in London, UK under the guidance of the art historian Prof. John White, former vice-president, UCL
2000-2004 Apprenticeship under the guidance of the sculpture master Kokei Eri, Kyoto, Japan
2004 – Reside in Auroville – an International Township in making and run an art and design studio

Sayoko Eri (my artist mother), J.S. Bach and Virgil Abloh. How could I select only three since there are so many inspiring artists all over the world.

What is the most important tool when creating your work?

I think it is the body. Otherwise a bowl to contain water.

If you want to improve your art best way to do is to teach.

I don't have any particular place for inspiration but I love traveling.
