Karin Gielen is a Belgian artist who was educated in Art History and studied Fine Arts and Art Photography in Antwerp. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and art fairs in Belgium, the Netherlands. and across the USA. Having worked with mixed media, she now focuses on oil and acrylic on canvas.
At the age of 18, Karin participated in a student exchange program and lived on Cape Cod USA for over a year. This is where she first came in contact with the arts and where she discovered her passion for drawing and painting. After having studied and worked in Belgium, she decided to move back to the US in 2020.
Finding a balance between an overwhelming amount of fragmented information and the need to withdraw from it, is the core of her work.
Overlapping marks are often countered by a visual void, not unlike the space in between the words of a poem. The edges of the canvas are drawing the viewer beyond the visible and into the imaginative.
