Ketut Susena's works received awards for best work in 1995 and best sketch in 1997 from STSI. The artist has participated in group and solo exhibitions in Indonesia and Germany. He now lives and works in Negara, Bali.
Susena consciously puts nature as the main orientation in his works. His paintings grow from personal experiences in the real world which have deeply touched him, especially in regard to natural places that are close to his daily existence. While he believes that a setting alone is beautiful, from it arises a need to construct another kind of beauty according to his dreams.
The artist’s paintings tend towards an abstract expressionistic style, using simple and clear brushwork with rhythmic movements that are conscious and subconscious, controlled and spontaneous. Most of the strokes are singular and often leave behind traces and textures of the brush on the canvas. The colours are warm, fresh and dynamic, even daring in their strong contrasts at times. His blend of the basic elements of line and colour result in strong impressions of nature.
