Based in: Austria
Born in the UK, Kir Lamont now lives and works in Austria, close to Salzburg. She is currently working on her Phd in Artistic Practice through the University for the Creative Arts, London whist also working as a Visual Arts tutor in Austria.
She has a Masters from the University for the Creative Arts (distinction) and a Bachelors in Fine Art from the Metropolitan University of Wales, UK. She exhibits across Europe and in the UK and is a member of die Kunschaffenden Galerie, Linz.
Her work takes influence from the mountain environment that she now lives in. Particularly the magical light effects at dusk when all we can see are silhouettes and the flickering of last light photons that make the air seem to dance. She examines this 'dancing air' as if through a microscope and finds lively, mischievous, particle-like-creatures hiding inside.
The scale of the work is important, Kir's large works aim to transport the viewer into a microscopic landscape or allow the mountains to tower over us in the gallery. Her small works act as tiny talisman; images that can be held and cherished.
Kir's large printed works are created through cutting into large foam printing plates, inking and then using her body as the printing press; stamping on them to transfer the ink. She also works with oil paints creating small scale abstract works and tiny lino prints.
