Colour have fascinated and kindled my imagination my whole life, it has been the main ingredient in my work throughout my years. The opportunities that presented themselves sent me on different paths. I made a career as an Art-Director in a advertising agency, some years later I was ready to try something new and wanted a new direction in my life. I moved to England where I studied Art and Art Therapy, I did my art training at Tobias School of Art in East Sussex, and got my diploma in 1997. Back in Norway I worked as an Art Therapist mainly with children and young adults. Two years ago I decided it was time to follow my heart and passion and develop my own artwork. It has been a hectic period with a steep learning curve to get it right but I have been more productive and inspired than ever before. Connecting with galleries, collectors and curators has given me new opportunities, I have received an award of excellence for my artwork and it has been exhibited and sold to collectors both nationally and internationally.
I live on a peninsula at the West coast of Norway with the North Sea at one side and beautiful Fjords on the other. This old landscape is part of my soul and inspire my work and continue to kindle my imagination. I want to transmit my perception of my homeland to the viewer, translated through the vibrancy of the colours. The pastel painting is like a window that reveal a sensual footprint of my soul transporting the viewer to my beloved landscapes.
I use memories of places and elements of landscapes, suggesting plant life and settlements in a variety of habitats. I want to convey a deeper connection to the natural world and to visualise the abundant beauty of the ecology we all are a part of made with a strong sense for the inner connection of the colours.
The colours resonates most forcefully within me giving me this powerful language to express myself. Beautiful colours, vibrant or soothing, surprising and fun, all of them wherever they appear continue to fascinate and inspire.
As a tactile person soft pastels are the obvious choice and my much preferred medium to work with. Using a “hands-on” approach is just right for me. I love the feeling of the pigments in my hands, moving and mixing them, creating shapes, edges or shadows, all with my hands and fingers. I’m a painter by heart, my way of thinking and applying colour matches the dry pastels well. Soft pastels has an exceptional degree of intensity and fluidity leaving me with a vibrant and ethereal panting. The vibrancy and purity of the pastels appeals to me. The way they carry the luminosity of the different colours are fantastic and as close to my imagination and perception of colour as I have found in any medium. This combined with the silky soft surface they create makes it an interesting and satisfying medium to work with, leaving me with a beautiful artwork that I’m proud of and enjoy.
