Lives and Works: Beijing
Liu Kun was born 1968 in Beijing, China. He graduated from the Center Academy of Art and design in 1992. His artworks have been exhibited in China, Hong Kong USA and Sweden.
Liu Kun has always been interested in using an oriental style of humor to depict images containing cultural symbols of a metaphorical nature. He also likes to reveal people’s state of mind, their unique innermost complexities.
A playful reference to history and the redefinition of dance come together in my paintings, to create a world as weird as that in Alice in wonderland. Focusing on the dance alone, political connotations fade away and all that remain are human sentiments. Which seem comical and surreal. Paradoxically, the dance itself resembles an illusion.
