Heng’s interest in painting is focused on the materials itself, the process of materialising the painting and finally the perception of the painting. The transformations that occur from one series to the next are hardly ever drastic, but every new painting builds on what have went before in a subtle but continuous progression. Repetition plays an important role during the process; it sets him into a ritual-like motion and a meditative state. That said, while every outcome of a repeated action varies, it nonetheless results in an almost monochromatic painting.
The paintings suggest at the possible escalation of its own unravelling; paintings that appear very little initially, but given time and observation, slowly reveal itself.
