Nakamura prides itself as a modern-day shikkaiya (kimono repair and dyers factory), and continues to preserve their traditions since they started in 1923. The role of a shikkaiya in the Edo Period was to serve as an intermediary among craftspeople working across the various stages of kimono making.
Today, Nakamura upholds Japanese dyeing techniques both traditional and contemporary by seeking contemporary applications.
