Lives and Works: Ulaanbaatar
Born in 1982 in Ulaanbaatar, Nomin Bold graduated in traditional Mongolian painting (zurag) from the School of Fine Arts of the University of Arts and Culture of Mongolia in 2005.
Nomin truly gets international recognition of her mature ultra-fine brushwork reinterpreting the Zurag painting style and transporting it to expressions of modern themes. While Bouddhist imagery still haunts parts of her inspiration, she boldly ventures into confronting Mongolian society with its current cultural crisis and with its woes.
She also points out the special condition of Mongolian women in a harsh world where they actually are in subtle control.
