Based in: Barcelona
I was born in Havana, Cuba. I've been living in Barcelona all my life. I studied sculptural procedures at the Escuela Superior de Disseny i Art Llotja in Barcelona. Wood, cast iron and steel are the materials I work with in the abstraction field.
Describe your creative process.
I craft my sculptures by bringing together thoughts, intentions and decisions that seek to balance expansion and containment. Working with dimensions and voids, my aim is not to allude everyday forms of reality, but rather evoke my inner journey of search, chance and desire. My work process is following my intuition while being in my studio. I would say it is kind of an automatic process where the flow is the main key Moreover, sometimes I deep into different new works that later allow me to come back to old ones that were waiting for something else to happen.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Intuition, process and finding hidden beauty
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
I am interested in the historical avant-garde of the 20th century, Bauhaus, Russian Constructivism, geometric abstraction and surrealism in its early stages, which refers to automatism, very useful to set a system of internal research work. Along the artists that I admire, I would mention Kandinsky, Hans Arp, Brancusi, Calder, Mondrian, Giacometti, Klee, Noguchi, Chillida, Oteiza, Anton Pevsner and Naum Gabo, among others.
Where do you go for inspiration?
I go to my inner world and work with the materials I have.
