Based in: Cebu
Radel Paredes is a professor in the University of San Carlos Department of Fine Arts in Cebu City, Philippines. A holder of master's degrees in philosophy and cinema studies, he was an op-ed columnist in the Cebu Daily News for nearly 20 years. Aside from writing about art, he also curates art exhibits and works as design consultant. As an artist he works in several media, preferring to let the concept dictate style, material, and technique. Believing that craft is as important as concept, he has recently explored various techniques of printmaking and sculpture, particularly terracotta and wood carving. From 2006 to 2008, he was the lone Philippine juror in the yearly China-ASEAN Youth Art and Creativity Contest. In 2013, he was among the group of Cebuano artists selected for a month-long art residency and exhibit in Paris, France. Radel was one of the two Filipino artists that got invited to Malaysia Contemporary Art and Tourism (MCAT) event organized by Mr. Liew Kian Yap of ArtMalaysia. He was also an original participating artist in the KITA International Art Exchange since 2012.
