Lives and Works: Saida and Beirut
Rasha Awkal was born on November 1st 1995. She always had a passion for drawing since the age of 4 and after four years, her mother decided that she needed to upgrade her talent and thus she started painting. She did her first oil painting by the age of 8 and along came others. She was inspired by the “realism” art period but then felt limited with colors so she stopped painting for a good amount of time. She studied at the Lebanese American University, also known as LAU, in Beirut in 2014 as an interior design major, but left with a fine arts degree instead in 2018. Switching to fine arts was the best decision she’s ever made because that revived her love for painting and made her realize there is much more than “reaslism” and that is abstract art. She fell in love with abstraction because it’s limitless and liberating. The artist doesn’t even know how the painting will look like and that’s the best part of it.
