RUSS LIGTAS is a poly-disciplinary visual and performing artist living in Manila. He employs his autobiographical approach onto sculpture, installation, video, text, and choreography to create hybrid artefacts, performances, and environments that investigate and contort notions of individual and collective identity. He received the Alvin Erasga Tolentino Choreography Award (2016) that led to the creation of his first ensemble dance piece “Postcard” for Koryolab Choreographer's Showcase in 2017 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. On the same year, he was awarded an Asian Cultural Council grant to investigate performance forms in New York, Bali, and Thailand which culminated with an artist residency at Tentacles Art Space In Bangkok. He was an artist in residence at the second edition of the Asia Discovers Asia Meeting for Contemporary Performance (ADAM 2) Artist Lab in Taipei. Since 2017, he has been touring the performance “Princess” in Europe which he co-created with Eisa Jocson.
