Lives and Works: Taipei
One of the most prolific and respected Asian designers, Shi Dayu (Jeff Shi) has made a name for himself throughout the world. After graduating from the New York Fashion Institute of Technology in 1989, he worked as a designer for Harry Winston Jewellery Company NYC, and immediately started amassing national and international awards. Returning to Taiwan, Shi expanded his design sphere from jewelry design to product design and store design, developing cultural and creative products that are artistic, innovative, and interdisciplinary. In recent years, Shi has begun exploring different uses of the material bamboo both as a cultural signifier and because it is a renewable material. His Bamboo Project won the red dot award for communication design in 2011, the iF communication design award in 2012, and was a nominee for the German Design Award in 2012.
