Lives and Works: Kolkata
Soumya K. Chakraborty explores the individual in the post-colonial perspective. Upfront and personal, his works are critiques of growing consumerism and globalization. They can be read as a part of growing resistance to the global economy and the power that multinational corporations have over our lives. There is subversion of known corporate icons and also highlighting of endangered indigenous systems and practitioners. He questions the rapid replacement of old order and continues to produce visual evocation of such worries and concerns.
