Stanley Wong (AKA. Another Mountain Man) (又一山人)

Born: 1960

Hometown: Hong Kong

Lives and Works: Hong Kong

Wong was born in 1960. In 1992 Wong was at the pinnacle of his career as a designer and advertising executive. He was well known, had won many professional prizes and earned a great deal of money but it was at this moment that he decided to create a new identity for himself and broaden his activities. He felt empty and hamstrung by the city: Hong Kong was simply about eating, shopping and making money, so he chose Zhu Da (1626–1705) as his spiritual master for his career as an artist, a famous Chinese Buddhist monk and painter.

Wong works for charities and teaches free of charge in schools in Hong Kong and China. A recent convert to Buddhism, he happily advocates the values “Faith, Love and Hope” and tries to encourage a meditative dimension to life in the city.

Anothermountainman’s recent awards include the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards 2011 - Award for Best Artist (Visual Arts) and the Hong Kong Contemporary Art Awards 2012. His work is collected by Deutsche Bank Collection (Hong Kong), Hong Kong Heritage Museum, Hong Kong Museum of Art, M+ Museum (Hong Kong), Guanshanyue Art Museum (China), The OCT Contemporary Art Terminal (China), Groninger Museum (The Netherlands) and Victoria & Albert Museum (UK).
