Subodh Apot is trying to work out potent human meanings from the kaleidoscope of current human life. He combines soft and delicate instances of life with harsh and bewildering moments which each one of us experiences at some stage of life. He culls out symbols: to fit together images that the face of them is mutually scattered, draw out of them dramatic moral insights those of emotional states. His intention is to enhance our capacity for valuable social referents. Here then is a potential visionary who forces paint to the limit of its power to suggests the urgency of our key impulses with saber-like sweeps and thrusts of loaded brush and palette knife, he impales paint on canvas. Most of his works have an expressionistic verve on them.
