Swati Singh

Swati Singh

Hometown: Jabalpur, India

Based in: Singapore

Please note that I will be away from 11 July - 9 August 2022. Thank you!

Swati is an Indian abstract expressionist artist based in Singapore. The endless possibilities of color, texture, shape, the orderliness in the seeming disorderliness of nature inspire Swati’s art, and find a voice in her work through the use of acrylic and mixed media on canvas and paper. Her art practice is exploratory and process driven. Her delicate yet strong compositions unfold in layers through the use of vivid colors and abstract forms and open up the infinite possibilities of connections via the explorations of natural surroundings and human emotions.

She has been trained at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, Singapore but as with any other art form most of her work is a result of her own explorations and visualizations.

Swati Singh In The Studio

"Abstraction provides an outlet to who I am, and where I am going. It opens up the world in layers that I did not know exist, while still keeping me grounded by alluding to what is yet to be seen."

More About Swati Singh

IconInspires

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the immense power of nature, and of human endeavor. The messiness, and the order; the clamor, and the peacefulness; the queer, and the customary is visible everywhere. Abstraction is my way of transforming these experiences and feelings into its visual equivalent.

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

My art practice is exploratory and process driven. It starts with an idea or few marks or colors and I respond to them in a more call and response manner, adding and subtracting as I go, it’s like a conversation between me and my canvas, a state of creative flow. Through this process I want to celebrate the subtleties and expressiveness of colors and marks, the symbolism of shape, the depth of layers and a sense of discovery. I work primarily with acrylic paint and other drawing mediums like pencils, charcoal, oil pastels and ink.

IconMagnifying

What are 3 words that best describe your work?

IconUser

IconTool

What is the most important tool when creating your work?

My Catalyst Wedge, I use to create movement and layers with acrylic paint.

IconGive

What is the best piece of advice you have been given?

Follow your process and practice, result will take care of itself.

IconLightbulb

Where do you go for inspiration?

Nature is my biggest inspiration, and I keep going back to it for ideas to develop my own unique artistic style.
