Born on May 30th, 1958 in Kowloon, Hong Kong, Thomas Leung inherited his artistic style and techniques from his father, H. Leung. Being the oldest out of four sons, he grew up watching his father create beauty on canvas and knew that he too would learn and capture the same enchanting feeling that his father’s work gave to gallery visitors.
As a teenager, Thomas exhibited his first paintings at Leung Gallery at the Miramar Hotel in Hong Kong where his father's works were on display. His family then immigrated to the United States in 1979 where he finished his studies with a major in fine art. While still in college, he started to develop his own individual style, finding exciting new ways to express his novel ideas. He experimented with an abundance of colors, explored new abstract concepts, and found new paths of artistic development that differed from his father. After graduation, he took over the management of Leung Gallery and Leung Studio, which oversees the fine art publishing and licensing for all Leung art. In the 1990s, the Leung art publishing and licensing business began to flourish when work began with Verker, IKEA and Costco chain stories. Over thousands of Leung art reproductions were introduced to the public through licensing. In 1999, Thomas was invited by AA International Gallery to have his first art exhibition in Shanghai at the Shanghai Art Fair.
In 2004, Thomas founded Yaosheng Ceramics located in JiangXi, Jingdezhen. Intricate and hand-painted porcelain designs were developed by Thomas and exported around the world. Their clientele includes William Sonoma and Ballard Design in the United States.
In 2009, Thomas founded the first Leung Gallery in China, located at the M50 art district in Shanghai and by mid-spring 2018, the second Leung Gallery in JiangXi, Jingdezhen. The Culture Trip also placed Leung Gallery in 2017 as one of “The Best Independent Galleries of Shanghai”. Besides the gallery’s own quarterly art shows, the Leung artists have attended exhibitions around the world in countries that include the United States, Canada, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China.
Today, Thomas creates artworks of great diversity: vibrant landscapes, striking abstracts, and pastels of multi-hued iridescence. They all show a masterful harmonization of color and a lasting vitality. His paintings can be seen at Lahaina Galleries in Hawaii and California and also at Leung Gallery in Shanghai and Jingdezhen, China.
