Born 1994 in South West Sydney where he currently lives and works Yousif completed his Master of Fine Art degree in 2018 majoring in painting at the National Art School, Sydney. During the course of his degree he developed an interest in the flat opaque surface finish you can achieve from rolling house paint. Since 2016 he has experimented with the properties of industrial paint opposed to traditional oil paint in order to reduce the imprint of the artist hand.
His work interplay's technological processes within the conventional perimeters of painting with the use of computer software and commercial vinyl cutting equipment. His content aims to revive and adapt the iconoclastic art works of the past century in order to question authenticity and its relevance in an image saturated world. This recycling of imagery is subjected to silhouetting, which is envisioned on the digital display initially, immobilizing the original gestural mark the referenced art work used to have. This motionless version of an otherwise expressive work or sculptural piece opens a new reinterpretation and further expands arts abundant history.
