TOSHIKATSU Endo was born in Takayama, Japan in 1950. He studied sculpture at Nagoya Junior Collage of Plastic Art and graduated in 1972. Toshikatsu had his first solo exhibition of sculptures in 1975 in Unami Gallery, Tokyo. His works are often addressing human existence, he often work with bones, wood, water and fire, his influences encompass the Shinto’s approach towards nature and the Western minimalist style.
‘For me, the creation of a work is an act that connects the most important elements of human existence. In that way it is a dialog. I think that for those of us alive today – artists included- we are living in a parallel context to modernism. My work talks about material and ancient ideas from a modernist perspective,’ Toshikatsu Endo (NY Art Magazine)
