Tricia Strickfaden

Hometown: Plano, TX

Based in: Los Angeles

Tricia Strickfaden is an abstract expressionist modern artist. She worked in interior design industry for many years, but didn’t begin painting until after the birth of her daughter. While working as a designer, she continued to evolve as an artist and build her following. LA’s hip and urban lifestyle would have a huge effect on her modern art, translating into the Urban Organics and Black and White series. Her background in modern design and interiors is evident in her work with the use of color inspired by the California lifestyle, implementation of organic gestured forms, and modern minimalistic shapes. She works with the push and pull of design elements and layering of color palettes to keep the work refreshing and real. The original work is represented by galleries and art dealers all across the US.

About Tricia Strickfaden

IconInspires

What inspires you?

I constantly study modern design, color, and art to inspire my paintings. Modern masters such as Picasso, Pollock and Rothko and many others, as well as current modern artists I follow on social media have been greatly influential. I look for inspiration in the beauty of everyday life, and see life with an artistic eye.

IconCreative

Describe your creative process.

I often start with initial sketches for ideas of composition. I spend a lot of time prepping the canvas and providing a textural ground. I then lay out the composition with masking tape and see where it evolves.

IconMagnifying

What are 3 words that best describe your work?

Modern, organic, geometric

IconTool

What is the most important tool when creating your work?

Masking tapes and papers

IconLightbulb

Where do you go for inspiration?

Social media. I love to see what other artists/designers are doing and what galleries are showing.
