Tsang Kin-Wah (曾建华)

Hometown: Guangdong

Based in: Hong Kong

Tsang was born in the mainland province of Guangdong and came to Hong Kong in 1981. He graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Camberwell College of Arts, the London Institute.

Originally trained in calligraphy, Tsang makes use of these types of language in his works. Words take the place of lines while also doubling the image's power of expression. He uses a prophetic discourse to interrogate human nature, about which he is very pessimistic. He has been famous for hiding provocative mini-texts within the inspiring images of flowers that cover the ceiling, walls and floor in his installations.

Tsang had many solo show worldwide such as Tsang Kin-Wah, at Yvon Lambert Gallery in New York (2007) and Paris (2008), MAM Project 015: Tsang Kin-Wah, at Mori Art Museum (2011), etc., and participated in various group exhibitions. He is a recipient of the Tokyo TDC Prize 2007 (Tokyo Type Directors Club), 2005 Sovereign Asian Art Prize (Sovereign Art Foundation), Winner of the Prize of Excellence (Hong Kong Art Biennial 2001). His works are found in key collections worldwide.
