Wang Ziwei (born. 1963, Shanghai) graduated from Shanghai Institute of Technology in 1983.
Wang worked for advertising agency until 1992, when he became a full-time painter. Noted for his "political pop" paintings, as featured in China's New Art, Post-1989 exhibition (Hong Kong, 1993).
Wang Ziwei creates a new intercultural visual language by blending different aspects of Chinese and American Pop Art integrating the image of Mao in to a completely new context. In 1987 Wang began to paint the Mao series of portraits. Western cartoon or pop Icons such as Mickey Mouse or Warhol's darling Marilyn parade over his colorful canvases. Wang Ziwei currently lives in Vancouver and Shanghai.
