Yang is an artist, photographer and producer based in Singapore who is obsessed with the human condition. Story-telling remains the crux of her works where each piece of art, each picture and each installation serves to connect at a deeper level - one human to another. Family Portrait was Yang's contribution to Kult Gallery's Choking Hazard exhibition, which presented art made from toys. Through the piece, Yang paints a Family Portrait, realised with memories of unboxing and tearing open toy boxes on Birthdays, Christmases and special occasions. It was these toys that bore the weight of holding a family structure together. Toys, to the artist, are a symbol of both guilt and time unspent.
