Hometown: Inner Mongolia
Based in: Beijing
Born in 1984 in Inner Mongolia, China, Yu Honglei draws inspirations from the everyday objects that he collected, which bring out and create an array of discursive new possibilities. Yu’s work often conveys a strong narrative that results from making visible the concept of ‘recurrence’ – a daily phenomenon and a way in understanding a revelatory sense that inhibits both life and art. He now lives and works in Beijing.
Notable solo exhibitions include ‘Meet Next Life’ at C-Space, Beijing (2012) and 'Everything is Extremely Important, There Is Nothing That Will Not Come Back Again’ at Magician Space, Beijing (2013). Tang has exhibited widely, namely at Shanghai Art Museum, Shanghai (2007), National Museum of Contemporary Art, Seoul (2007), Museum of Contemporary Art, Taipei (2008), Platform China Contemporary Art Institute, Beijing (2008), Victoria and Albert Museum, London (2008), Museum of Contemporary Art, Shanghai (2011) and Aike-Dellarco, Shanghai (2013).
