Born: 1990
Hometown: Seoul
Based in: Seoul and Melbourne
Studied art in Melbourne, Australia, Yuna Chun is currently living and working in Seoul Korea.
Her works are mainly created with acrylic and resin on wood panels, inspired by how people react in urban scapes and minimal lines.
Her interests now evolved in quantum physics, (which she doesn't understand much but interested in) which she is currently experimenting with pencil on papers.
What inspires you?
‘Space’ was where everything had started. First I was fascinated by the cityscapes, big buildings and boulevards. These urban geometrics later became small square patterns in my works. When my works on wood panels are talking about tangible world that we are living in, I recently have started to explore meanings of space in quantum physics.
Describe your creative process.
First i start with sketch on prepared wood panel. My drawings are done with rulers and architect templates to creat my patterns. Followed by colouring in, which is my favourite! Then here comes the masking tape to block the patterns. After i do background, peel the masking tape and finish the work with redoing the lines.
What are 3 words that best describe your work?
Natural geometry
Who are some artists that have influenced your work?
I first influenced by Sol LeWitt and other conceptual/minimalism artists. However my favourite artist is Kim Whanki, Korean danseakwha (monochrome) artist!
What is the most important tool when creating your work?
3M blue masking tape!! And my ipad for streaming Netflix while I work!
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
Keep painting, keep working
Where do you go for inspiration?
I listen to podcasts or random not-art-related-classes! That’s how i found about quantum physics!
