A depiction of a larger than life tribal african mask in a cubist style. The idea revolves around the concept that we are all one, the red earth background signifying that we are all 'of this earth', and despite the colours on the mask, painted with the diversity of human skin tones, emphasising the point.
I wanted this painting to be multi-cultural, to represent the volatility and diversity of humankind, to celebrate it, yet as a reminder of our roots, which are all collectively bound together in a tapestry of life and history.
This painting's larger than life proportions adding something indescribable to the ambience. There is a certain primitive quality about it, imposing and projecting its presence into the room with power and mysterious knowledge.
It is a powerful image, no doubt, since faces are deeply ingrained into our minds with specialized areas since we were infants. The yellows of the nose and cheek are especially gratifying. There are also other colours: portrait pink, umbers and siennas.
It has since been exhibited in 2016 at the State Gallery of Fine Arts, Hyderabad, India.

After first drawn to painting after being inspired by Cubism's proposal of perceiving the physical, I create works that play on human vision and perception. I am keenly interested in the intersection of abstraction and representation, subconscious and conscious, art and technology.
I am very much inspired by David Hockney, Picasso, Bacon, SH Raza, among others. Any number of subjects from my rather broad and arcane interests as well as my own contemplations and observations of the current zeitgeist inspire my work. I intend to continue making geometrics although I have painted large, life-size animals and humans in my style, as well as landscapes, a series of mountains which I will continue to expand, as well as pure conceptual abstractions designed to allow the mind to relax and wander, and induce mindfulness.
My artworks are creations made by hand, thoroughly researched, precisely mapped and measured before painting with hundreds of layers in a technique I've developed over 4 years of painting: clean, crisp lines separating blocks of colour, with visible brushstroke texture. I always start from scratch, on a blank piece of paper. Most of the time there is a concept or subject behind a painting that had particular significance or had inspired me based around which an artwork is created. Other times the specific materials dictate the piece into a composition that complements it. I often use hardware brushes for their granular texture to compliment my speedy brush strokes.
I am very much curious of new and emergent technologies and how they continue to drive progress and further innovation, pushing our collective knowledge forward, and how they affect the sensibilities of form, design, and art. The end result of the work is an object that remains decidedly analog and handcrafted in the face of increasing automation, yet developed aided by modern technology.
